Quick feedback from early users on demo: the two most common complaints are message formatting and emoji.

On formatting: would it be possible to reuse XenForo's built-in rich text editor (or its editor API) for message input? Messages already live in native DMs as BB code, so rendering through the same pipeline would keep formatting consistent with the rest of the board and avoid a separate HTML sanitization layer.

On emoji: the request is for Messenger to use XenForo's native emoji/smilie system instead of a bundled preset — users expect the same palette they have in posts.

Both would keep the "native DM" architecture intact while fixing the top two UX complaints.

Thanks, that matches what we see, and one important note: you're on 1.2.1, and the current line has moved a lot since. The message pipeline has always been native BB code (native replier on write, native rendering on read, native @mentions and :emoji: completion in the input), so there is no separate HTML layer to worry about, on any version. The picker in the current line already reads XenForo's own emoji catalogue instead of a bundled list.

Your two points still land: the picker does not yet merge the board's custom smilies, so the exact palette people know from posts isn't fully there, and there is no formatting UI on selection. Both are queued right behind the upcoming update: custom smilie categories in the picker, and a floating format toolbar (bold, italic, link, code, spoiler) with keyboard shortcuts, keeping the clean composer.

Short version: a major update is being finalized for the store (it also brings voice and video calls, select-to-quote and a full design refresh), and both requests are being built on top of it.

Thank you ! That is very reassuring and exactly the direction we hoped for.
Native BBCode rendering, XenForo emoji integration, custom smilie categories, and a clean formatting toolbar will make the messenger much more suitable for business-oriented conversations on our community.

The upcoming update sounds excellent. We will keep testing it on mobile as well, especially the composer behaviour, since mobile keyboard auto-focus currently causes a noticeable page jump when opening a conversation.
